Coming 22nd January 2028

The story behind the legend of the Brixton Academy returns to Southwark Playhouse Borough - bigger, bolder and more electric than ever.

In 1983, Simon Parkes bought a derelict Brixton cinema for just £1. Ten years later he had turned it into one of the world’s most iconic music venues.

Directed by Bronagh Lagan ('Cruise') and inspired by Parkes’ anarchic memoir 'Live at the Brixton Academy', this multi-award-winning show tells the story of The Academy through the people who were there, with music from The Clash, Blondie, Bob Marley, Bruce Springsteen, Fela Kuti, Billy Ocean, The Prodigy and more.

Part gig, part memoir, part fever dream, Brixton Calling is a wild and deeply personal story of music, friendship, ambition and rock ’n’ roll survival … insofar as anyone can remember it.
